Commercial Carpet Cleaning

This week I have completed  a few commercial carpet cleaning jobs in Rotherham, sheffield ,wakefield and barnsley.

We have been using a encapsulation cleaning system which cleans, removes stains and deodorises all in one process ,it also leaves a coating of soil retard making it easier to clean .

First we vacuum all the areas to be cleaned before applying a polymer prespray that when agitated using a rotary machine the solution then encapsulates any residue and stains in the carpet leaving them clean and also dry in under a hour .

Mpower is best used fresh on each job due to its colloidal action .

I mix up my solution on the job with hand hot water and for general cleaning Mix it at 120/1.

After vacuuming the carpet or upholstery I then liberally spray the item with Mpower ,I then proceed with agitation this is to give a even coat to all the fibres of the active solution on carpets I use mechanical agitation with either a oreck or crb machine .

I have found that a 20 to 25 min dwell works best on most jobs , once the dwell is completed I then Extract Using Just Plain water ,which then leaves no sticky  residue that other detergent based solutions can .

Salvaging Trashed carpets in Wakefield

Salvaging Trashed Carpets in Wakefield

restored stairs carpet

How do we manage to restore carpets that have been abused like this in wakefield

It starts with a process , with carpets this bad we need to break out some serious solutions.

This is our step by step guide .

  1. Brush stairs down with a stiff brush getting into all the edges           (use softer on wool)
  2. Vacuum the stairs again paying attention to the edges , using a grout brush to get into the gaps  grout brush
  3. Mix up your pre-spray in this case shockwave was mixed hand hot water any hotter and it will slow down the active enzymes 15ml to 1 litre.
  4. spray the stairs so that enough product is released to cover all the fibre starting from the top to the bottom .                   IMG_0423
  5. Return to the top of the stairs and using a oreck with a green stiff brush work your way down agitating the prespray .
  6. Leave to Dwell in this case a good 30 minutes
  7. Begin extracting from the top using a hand tool and flushing well then finishing of with drying strokes the bull noses can be finished off with the end off the hose . I use a magma heater to heat the rinse water this gets up to 110 degrees
  8. check the stairs for and spot , paint stains etc and treat accordingly using your stain kit mainly I use citrus gel and a form of solvent   (some do this at the beginning but I leave it to last as a lot will come out with the process) always flush treated areas well and keep solvents away from the carpet backing .
  9. Finish off by towelling them down

Stairs are hard work and remember the bottom 3 treads take a lot of wear and the backing can get impacted with dry soiling so don’t over wet the treads or you will get wick back.

We cover all areas of wakefield , Stanley ferry , East ardsley.Thornes,Hobury .Sandel ,Kettlethorpe,Newmiller Dam ,Dewsbury,Ossett

We also do commercial wok in wakefield offices ,shops ,factories ,schools, leisure centres Dr surgeries.

Encapsulation cleaning

What is encapsulation cleaning ?

Its a process of removing or trapping or encapsulating soil in a polymer or crystal film ,this polymer drys encasing the soil, and this allows  the soil and contaminates to be vacuumed away in the next normal cleaning programme.

encapsulation chemicals incorporate a crystallizing  polymer that resists re-soiling better than traditional detergent based chemicals.

Old type carpet detergents act like a magnet and , attract dirt after the cleaning. New  encapsulation detergents are made up of polymers that crystalize. the polymer dries to a brittle consistency that wont attract soil .Lots of the new encaps have built in soil retarders that stop rapid resoiling and keep fibres cleaner longer. They also have a deoderiser incorporated into the product ,which leaves carpets not only looking great but also smelling fresh.

The Advantages

  • It dries very quickly short pile fibers typically dry in under 30 minutes.
  • It eliminates problems with recurring spills and wick back

    Commercial carpet cleaning

heavily soiled carpet cleaned using Encapsulation Method

  • Prevents rapid resoiling.
  • The  cleaning process is quicker than Hwe.
  • The machinery is portable (oreck)

Machinery

  • Electric sprayer or good pump up sprayer
  • Slow speed rotary
  • oreck
  • op Machine
  • Prochem Pro 35  or any contra rotating brush machine (CRB)

Cleaning Process

My aim before applying any encap solution is to remove the maximum amount of dry soil from the carpet .

  • This is accomplished by using a crb on the dry carpet ,then all edges are brushed out using a edging brush ,
  • We then give the carpet a thorough vacuuming both north, west, east, and south ways.
  • Next stains, draught marks and chewing gum are treated and removed
  • The solution is then mixed up as per instructions
  • It is then sprayed over a fixed area of about 10 to 20 sq yards depending on humidity as we don’t want it to dry out , it is then left to dwell for the recommended time usually 5 mins.
  • we then run a rotary over the solution using a pad working in a overlapping fashion going left to right then up and down if needed .Air movers can be used at this point to speed up the drying process
  • Once completed a post vacuum  is needed when dry ,this can be completed by the customer or in house cleaners . I like to do this myself before I leave if possible

Host Cleaning

‘Host’ is a trade name for a company that uses Micro sponges to clean carpets and rugs using the VLM (very low moisture) system.

This system uses the contra rotating brush machine to agitate the sponges into the carpet after a good vacuuming.

Heavily soiled areas and stains are treated with the appropriate pre spray (lightly) prior to laying down the sponges this is to give the pre spray adequate dwell time to break down stains

After the sponges have been applied (about a good handful per sq metre) they are allowed to absorb all the dry soil and stains that have been broken down, they are simple vacuumed away .

Here is a Host video demonstration using a combined vac and brush machine

Stain Removal : Blood ,Tea,Coffee ,Wax,Nail Varnish,Mascara

Here is a list of techniques that could help remove stains from your carpets and rugs.

Remember there is no guarantees that it will work so always proceed with caution, a lot of stain removal success is down to a lot of variables, ie; type of fiber ,hot or cold tea, coffee, how much was spilled , the carpet backing etc

Blood

  • First thing (PPE ) personal protection equipment, gloves and mask if possible and thoroughly disinfect all equipment used during this procedure
  • The first thing to do with blood is blot up the excess with kitchen towel ,and seal in a disposable bag.
  • Once it is all disposed of start to treat the stained area .Rinse the area with cold water using a wet extraction machine. if you haven’t got one spray heavily with cold water and blot keep doing this until no blood is appearing on your blotting towel.
  • If a stain is still present treat with a enzyme stain treatment, mix it with warm water not hot. and apply  to area and leave for 10 minutes then rinse again with a detergent as enzymes can set of asthma attacks so proceed with caution .If a orange haze is left then a treatment of rust remover may help to remove this .
  • Blood stains may reappear this is due to wick back , re clean the area and dry with fans or a hair dryer  as quickly as possible, taking care not to get to close or you will scorch the fibers
Blood

Tea

If you spill hot tea on a wool carpet there is  a 95%  chance that it is permanent .

  •  Blot, the area removing all tea , Do Not Rub as this will cause fibre distortion
  • spray area with cold water , to rinse area and bot or extract using a wet extraction machine .
  • Apply any detergent available and spray the area and repeat rinse procedure.

If there is still staining use hydrogen peroxide and 5 %  ammonia.(with caution) spray the area and let it dwell for up to a  2 to 3 hours .once completed rinse the area as above.

Nail Varnish

  •  Pour some acetone in a dish

    Red Nail Varnish

    Removing Nail polish with acetone

  • Blot up  larger pools with a tissue
  • Using a ear bud dip it in the acetone and gentle work it into the varnish blotting it out ,careful not to spread the stain  or wet the carpet backing repeat until all gone
  • Rinse the area with a mild detergent

Mascara

Mascara is oil based , so good old white spirit will sort it

  • white spirits applied to a white towel then blot the area avoiding getting any white spirits on the carpet backing
  • Rinse  area with mild detergent when finished
