£10 Per Room Carpet cleaning (Ho Ho Ho)

Christmas is coming ! Do you believe in Santa ? and do you Do you believe that anyone can come to your house and deep clean your carpets For £10 or £20 and stay in business?

Image

Lets Just study the photo above ,

  1. Van £10,000
  2. Alltec Hot water extraction machine £2000
  3. Taski Ranger Low Moisture Rotary Up to £2000 for full kit
  4. Sebo Vacuum Cleaner £380
  5. Then there is solutions and spotters ,extra tools insurance ,pipes extra spotters.
  6. Marketing £2000

As you can see that is over £16,000 and that isn’t a lot compared to Larger firms .

So you can see its impossible to run a business on cleaning carpets at £10 a room.

The only way they can do it is

  1. Add high Ph detrgent to their hot water extraction machine, this damages wool fibers
  2. Add on costs that they never mentioned on the Phone
  3. Use small under powered machines that leave the dirt still in the
    rapid resoiled carpet

This carpet was cleaned, by a £10 a room cleaner , As you can see, a high a ph solution was used and not acid rinsed adequately to balanced out the ph

    carpets and wet for days.

  4. Use cheap detergent that causes rapid re-soiling , some even use Daz
  5. Have no training
  6. Complete jobs as fast as they can

Remember always use a fully trained carpet cleaner , as anything less could end up costing you more than £10

Cheap carpet cleaning

We all like a bargain ,but if it seems to good to be true then generally it isn’t as good a deal as you first thought.

When a professional  carpet cleaner cleans your carpet, they will adhere to their basic training and follow a standard procedure for cleaning carpets

  1.  Check the construction of the fibre used in your carpet,by mean of a burns test, as wool shouldn’t be cleaned at above 55dg.
  2.  Vacuum your carpet thoroughly, with a comercial vacum cleaner with a beater bar.
  3. Apply a preconditioned solution best suited to the level of soiling on your carpet and its construction.
  4.  Agitation :after allowing the pre conditioner a suitable dwell time they will agitate the solution into the fibres using a mechanical device such as a rotary or crb (counter rotating brush machine ).
  5.  Dwell Timeafter another short dwell time extraction can be completed using only  plain hot water in some instances a acid rinse we be added to balance out the ph of the fibers.
  6.  GroomedIt will then be groomed and  dried using large floor fans to assist evaporation .

Bad points to look out for

  • Small under powered machines that don’t  recover enough moisture and leave your carpets wet for long periods.
  • High PH detergents that strip wool carpets of their natural oils , this is what makes them re-soil quickly
  • Bait and switch , where they quote you a low price , but Once in your home add extras, that professionals include.

New Carpet Cleaning System

I have been cleaning carpets for over 10 years Now , and unlike lots of carpet cleaners I have tried lots of different systems .

Most systems years ago relied on a in tank  cleaning solution the same as Rug Dr and home cleaners use still .

This system has many pitfalls

  • The detergent has no time to dwell on the carpet fibres
  • There is a good chance of rapid re-soiling due to residue being left in the carpet
  • There is no heaters to aid cleaning power, in these smaller machines
  • Detergents are not always equipped to deal with the lots of different stains in carpets

The system we Use is the most thorough we have used.

11 step system

  1. Determine the construction of the carpet ie: wool, polypropylene , Nylon
  2. Vacuum the carpet in a very slow manner north south then east west , up to 80% of dirt is dry and can be recovered using this method
  3. Move all furniture as drafts in the home leave dust and debris under sofas and chairs
  4.  We Apply a specialist sourced carpet cleaning solution that has been thoroughly tested by us. and is a great all rounder for breaking down stains.odours and soiling
  5. Dwell time , we have found that this is one of the most over looked part of the system solutions what ever they are need time to work , the heavier the soiling the longer is needed . 20 minutes to a hour is needed .
  6. Agitation, this is needed to make sure all the fibres are coated with the solution and aides the breaking down of soils and stains .
  7. Re application of the solution as not all soils are broken down by the first application and some of the solution has evaporated during stage 5 and 6
  8. Extraction using Very Hot water and a extraction solution that deodorises and ph balances the carpet so that no soil attracting residue is left behind
  9. Spot treatment, any spots left behind are treated with a stain removing solution then rinsed.
  10. Then we groom the carpet to aide drying
  11. Finally depending on the carpet fibres construction especially wool we dry with large fans this stops wick back

Rug Doctor V Professional carpet cleaner

Many people say they will clean their carpets with a Rug Doctor; after all, you can go to the supermarket and get a rug doctor for £30, right?

Oh yeah, don’t forget the detergent £9.99

And those spots probably need some kind of special remover.

What about the Doggie smell and the urine stain that ‘Spot’ left for us?

Don’t forget to grab the stair tool for the steps.

All said and done it costs almost £50. Just check their website! £30 machine hire £9.99 detergent £9.99 Upholstery detergent £4.99 traffic lane cleaner that’s £54.97 and that’s just for a Basic clean .
There is also the matter of your time and sweat. And picking up the equipment will take at LEAST 30 minutes, even if you live close by.

Then, there is the cleaning and emptying and refilling the water which is probably 30 minutes a room. With 5 rooms and a hallway it will take about 4 hours before you can Sit back and relax.

If you make £7.50 an hour (minimum wage) That’s £30, and the £54.97 you already paid out. Grand total = £94.97  What a great deal !!  We do full House’s from £95

Barnsley carpet and upholstery cleaners will clean rooms from £35 Plus discounts for any other rooms booked at the same time , and you get to lay back and watch someone else do the work.

Not only that, but we have professional grade detergents and heat – lots of heat. Frankly, no Rug Doctor will be able to deliver the power like we can. Our floor  machine gives a deep agitation to loosen all dirt, and powerful vacuum that will leave your carpet Drier, reducing your “stay off the carpet time.”

We also have the training and experience to get out many spots that if treated the wrong way will become permanent stains.

When times are tight, the apparently cheaper option may not save you the most money.

If not A Barnsley carpet and upholstery cleaners cleaning your carpets, make sure you use a professional carpet cleaner .
Rapid re-soiling caused by Rug Dr

Case Study

Mrs Curran, Darton

“Hi  is that Barnsley carpet and upholstery cleaners, I’ve  Used a rug Dr and it looks clean , but it smells terrible and it wont go”.

On inspection Mrs Curran has done what most people do when they use the Rug Dr.
On areas that are dirtier than others, (walk ways) they wont come clean due to the process used by the Rug Dr ,So they go over it 3 ,4  5 times.
This floods the area and the underlay .
The small vacuum motors on the Rug Dr cant extract the water that has penetrated to the carpet backing and underlay even the sub floor, it then wont dry and starts to build up with bacteria which the begins to smell .

Solution

  • we spray the carpet with  a antibacterial solution ,  and let it dwell
  • Then extract using twin vacuum carpet cleaning machine which recovers the solution and rinse’s the area.
  • We then dry the carpet with cotton pads on a rotary machine or a fan.
If  really bad flooding has occurred sometimes the carpet will need lifting, and the underlay discarding and then replaced

Carpet cleaning Methods

There is 4 basic ways to clean carpets and then a few that are variations of each one.
The one thing they all have in common is that the carpet must be Thoroughly vacuumed before any of the other stages take place. This should be completed with a vacuum cleaner fitted with a beater bar , and should be vacuumed north south and west east using a slower than normal action this is so the maximum amount of soil is removed ,which by most reports is up to 84% of loose soil

1. Steam cleaning process

Referred to as Hot water extraction by professional carpet cleaners. In this process the carpet is first pre-sprayed with a solution and left to dwell that breaks down the soils and grease which are present in the carpet fibers. Water is heated in a large machine up to 90 degrees this is near boiling point this water is then injected at up to 300 psi into the carpet fibers and instantly sucked back into the machine taking with it all the residue that the pre spray has loosened and broken down. Due to the heat of the water and the strong vacuums your carpet will be left only slightly damp

Good points

  • Removes deep based soiling from carpet
  • The best process for deep and thorough cleaning of carpets
  • The high pressure and hot water gives excellent cleaning power
  • This is the preferred method recommended by carpet manufacturer’s and professional cleaners

Bad points

  • Longer drying times , but this can be reduced with the use of fans and good ventilation
  • Relatively high cost factors, for machinery

2. Bonnet cleaning

This method uses a absorbent pad and a prey-spray.

The solution is allowed to stay on the carpet for a suitable dwell time.
The bonnet is placed on the carpeted area and a rotary machine is then placed on top ,it is then spins a up to 200 rpm and absorbs all the dirt and stains into the pad

appying bonnet to rotary machine before cleaning a carpet

Good points

  • Easy system to use, covers large areas fast
  • Great results on lightly soiled carpets
  • Keeps costs down
  • Stops wick back (where stains re-appear after wet cleaning)

Bad points

  • Only cleans top third of carpet
  • Leaves deep down dirt in carpet

3. Dry cleaning absorbent compound
How it works
Granules that have been soaked in a solvent mixture are spread onto a carpet and brushed into the fibers using a counter rotating machine.
The granules are left to dwell while they breaking down all the organic soiling and stains , then absorbing it all int the granules these are then vacuumed up

Dry compound

dry compound for cleaning carpets

Good points
A very easy system to use with very little risk of damage.
Fast drying times ,carpets are back in use in under 30 minutes

Bad points

  • Powder can be missed and left behind in the carpet fibers
  • It wont deep clean the carpet

4. Dry foam or shampoo

A foaming solution is sprayed onto the carpet and wipped into a foam by a rotary machine, after the foam has absorbed all the dirt and stains and dried it is vacuumed up.

cleaning a carpet using the foam method

Good points

  • Covers large areas fast and effectively
  • Brushes on the rotary give good agitation for removing soil
  • This is a very good method for large areas and drys fast

Bad points

  • cleaning dose not reach deep down into the carpet pile
  • Over wetting can occur through faulty machinery and over application

Rapid resoiling

These stairs have been cleaned by the home owner with shop purchased carpet cleaning detergent.

rapid re-soiling due to detergent residue being left in the carpet

rapid re-soiling due to detergent residue being left in the carpet

This seems to work at first but within hours the carpet fibers become sticky, attracting dirt to the fibers .

this is due to not flushing out the detergent with a fresh water rinse with some added white vinegar ,this will help rinse out detergent residue , you wouldn’t wash your hair then not rinse it.

The same is true with your laundry that is why your rinse cycle takes so long .

Professional carpet cleaners use non detergent based cleaners,  if a detergent based one is needed then it is rinsed out of your carpet using a high powered hot water extraction machine .

Bs360 Vacuum cleaner

The Bs 360 vacuum cleaner is the best piece of equipment I have ever used.

When I first started carpet cleaning I used the Dyson but in one year I went through three of them.

They are made of Brittle plastic and when thrown  in and out of the van they break quite easily.image

The BS 360 is however is made very solidly and the one that I have now i have had for over 10 years and it looks as good as the day I first bought it. image

It is a bagged Vacuum cleaner ,

but has filtration levels up to hospital HEPA standard.

The BS 360 incorporates a detailing nozzle on the side of the Hoover which is easily removed and can pickle dirt and debris from along skirting boards and under sofas etc .

The brushes on the Bs360 are far longer than that Dysons and it has four level settings for hard floors and deep pile carpets

I would highly recommend one of these Hoovers for  use in your family home. once purchased the the bs360 will last you a lifetime
